United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC)
The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) held its 30th Annual National Convention featuring a Latina Summit and Business Expo in Denver, Colorado from September 16-19, 2009. The four-day event provided educational workshops, town halls, receptions, business matching opportunities and many other resources critical to the continued growth and success of the Hispanic business community. The event brought together local groups from the great state of Colorado, Hispanic entrepreneurs, high-level representatives and executives from corporate America, political leaders, White House officials, and Hispanic Chamber leaders from throughout the nation as the USHCC celebrates the advances made by the Hispanic business community during its three-decade history.

On September 22nd, Latino Leaders Network hosted the third Latino Leaders Luncheon Series featuring Soledad O’Brien, anchor and special correspondent for CNN Worldwide, at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C. The event brought together Hispanic leaders, corporate leaders, and attracted hundreds of participants to network. O’Brien showcased her most recent project, Latino in America, the third documentary in the “In America” series, scheduled to air this October.

National Council of La Raza (NCLR) Alma Awards
On September 18, the National Council of La Raza, (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization, showcased more Latino talent in more arenas than ever before at the 2009 ALMA Awards®. The event pays tribute to the spirit of pioneering Latinos in television, music, and sports. Among special guests were Eva Longoria Parker, George Lopez, actor/producer Salma Hayek and boxer/philanthropist Oscar de la Hoya, to name a few.

National Hispana Leadership Institute (NHLI)
The National Hispana Leadership Institute (NHLI) held its 2009 Executive Leadership Program Graduation on Friday, September 18 in Washington D.C. This year, 22 Latinas graduated for the Executive Leadership Program, a four-week intensive leadership training program that spans nine months and is implemented in four cities. The program targets mid-career professional Latinas and utilizes a model that focuses on emphasizing and building on personal strengths. The intensive learning experience provides training in strategic management, public policy, and cultural issues. Additionally, each participant mentors at least two other Latinas and completes a leadership project in their respective communities.

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI)
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) held its 2009 Public Policy Conference themed, “Latinos Leading in a Global Society” on September 13-15 in Washington D.C. The event brought together more than 800 people to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. CHCI also hosted its 32nd Annual Awards Gala, which drew more than 2,200 guests, including 62 Members of Congress, ambassadors, celebrities, dignitaries, CHCI sponsors, fellows, and alumni. This year theme was “Latinos Leading in the Arts” which honored Latino achievements and contributions to the arts in the United States.
