Cindy Estrada, was elected United Auto Workers (UAW) Vice president in Detroit.
Cindy Estrada has been elected United Auto Workers (UAW) vice president by delegates at the union’s 35th Constitutional Convention in Detroit.

A longtime union organizer and social activist, Cindy Estrada is the first Latina elected to serve as a UAW vice president. A member of UAW Local 174 in Romulus, Mich., since 1995, Estrada previously served as director of the union’s National Organizing Department. Appointed in 2008 by then UAW president Ron Gettelfinger, her responsibilities included directing the union’s organizing staff in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. She joined the UAW international staff in 2000 when she was appointed by then UAW president Stephen P. Yokich. Estrada developed a passion for the labor movement while growing up listening to stories from her grandparents and other relatives recounting working in the fields as farm workers and as factory workers. In 1993 she earned a degree in education from the University of Michigan, and then worked with the United Farm Workers of America. Estrada, a lifelong Democrat, is an active member of the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) and the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA). She is involved in numerous charitable organizations.
Blanca Carrasquillo is the new deputy director of the Bridgeport Housing Authority.

Blanca Carrasquillo has become the first Latina to be named deputy director of the Bridgeport Housing Authority (BHA). It is among the largest housing authorities nationwide in a city with a growing Hispanic population that numbers at least one-third of Bridgeport’s residents. Carrasquillo began working at a steakhouse at the age of 15, then moved to print shop supervisor, in her father’s restaurant and finally, at age 18, at the Bridgeport Housing Authority.

The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) has elected Margaret Moran, of San Antonio, TX, as president. She has more than three decades working for LULAC’s mission. Since 2008 to the present she served as the LULAC National Parliamentarian, 2004-2008, National Vice President for Women, 2001-2004, State Director, LNESC-SA Co-Founder, 1999-2001, Deputy State Director, and Council President #4421 in 1985. She has been involved in the community since 1970. “I am honored to serve in this role. LULAC is a non-partisan organization that consists of people from all walks of life and perspectives,” said LULAC National president Margaret Moran. “Our organization must move forward by continuing to recruit and inspire youth and young adults to participate. We provide them with the resources to become leaders and have many members that are outstanding models and mentors.”

In this capacity she will work with marketvision’s clients to bring digital and shopper marketing to the forefront of their marketing efforts. “Frenchie has an extensive background in categories and areas where our agency excels - at-retail and promotional marketing,” said agency founder and CEO Yvonne “Bonnie” García. “She also brings digital and shopper-marketing expertise to help us guide our clients through a changing U.S. marketplace, helping them connect to today’s multicultural consumers w­­here they shop and engage in a digital world.” With an extensive brand-building experience, Guajardo has worked on both the agency and corporate sides of the business with several companies and brands, including Coca-Cola, General Mills, Miller Beer, IKEA and P&G. Guajardo has a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism - advertising - public relations from the University of Texas at El Paso and studied strategic marketing planning at the Executive School of Business at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
