On March 22-24, the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) held its 20th Annual Legislative Summit in Washington, DC. This year’s theme “Working together towards a New Economy,” gathered top elected officials and highlighted key policy issues affecting the Hispanic business community. This three-day event provided participants with an unparalleled opportunity to hear directly about today’s policy and business concerns from top legislators of all political sectors.

Cuban American National Council (CNC)
On March 9th, the Cuban American National Council, (CNC) held its Hispanic Leadership Celebration event at the Library of Congress in Washington DC. The event gathers over 300 national leaders, organizations and guests who join the Council to network during the event and honors leadership accomplishments at all government levels. This year award recipients were U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ), and Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis. Previous award recipients include the Hon. Grace F. Napolitano, Congresswoman, 38th District, U.S. House of Representatives; Hon. Anna Escobedo Cabral, Treasurer of the United States; Hon. Albio Sires, Congressman, 13th District, U. S, House of Representatives; U.S. Senator Bob Menendez, Chairman, Democratic Caucus; U.S. Senator Mel Martinez and Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.

Latino Leaders Network
On Monday March 1st, the Latino Leaders Network, a platform for prominent Latinos to network with each other and gain insight from their peers, held its second Latino Leaders Luncheon Series honoring NASA Astronaut José Hernández with the Nambé Eagle Leadership Award for outstanding contributions to the community. On August 28, 2009, Mr. Hernández became the ninth Latino astronaut in space, and the fourth astronaut of Mexican ancestry, as part of the crew of Space Shuttle Mission STS-128, where he filled the post of Mission Specialist.
