The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) held its 2010 Public Policy Conference “Celebrating History, Heritage and the American Dream” on September 13-15 in Washington D.C. CHCI was joined by Members of Congress, cabinet secretaries, national leaders and expert panelists to examine the crucial issues affecting daily lives with topics on corporate responsibility, education, and the economy. Some sessions included “America’s Future: Economic Prosperity,” Latino Leaders Summit Series; “America’s Promise: Education”; “America’s Strength: Immigration Reform”; “ America’s Future: Our Children’s Nutrition and Health,” to name a few.

Latino Leaders Network (LLN)
On September 22nd, Lieutenant General Ricardo Sanchez, USA, (Ret.), who led coalition ground forces in Iraq, addressed Latino Leaders from across the nation at the luncheon held in Washington, DC. General Sanchez spoke on his challenges, courage and career path. At the end of his remarks, Latino Leaders Network founder Mickey Ibarra presented General Sanchez with the Nambe Eagle Leadership Award for outstanding contributions to the Latino community and the country. Since he retired as the highest ranking Hispanic in the U.S. military, he has spoken about the opportunities the military offers for Latino youth – an environment that has been at the forefront of integrating minorities. Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU)
On September 18-20, the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) held its 24th Annual Conference at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront in San Diego, CA. The annual conference provides a forum for the sharing of information on issues affecting the Hispanic community. This year’s theme “Championing Hispanic Higher Education Success: Expanding Opportunities in Challenging Times” brought together undergraduate, graduate and professional school students from colleges and universities throughout the nation for opportunities that will develop their career. Topics included: special student track workshops, hispanic participation in scholarships, fellowships and information on other programs, student mixers and a career fair.
