It’s Springter for Latinas!

I love the new word “Springter”-a term for the season between winter and spring. Whether you live in a region of the country that might have more inclement weather to come, or reside in an area that is already enjoying balmy days and spring blossoms, it’s a great time to check out some of the newest automotive offerings. Are car or adding another vehicle to your portfolio? We have selected a few models to highlight: two are top-selling sedans that carry five riders in comfort, with lots of new convenience and technology features. And, we took a closer look at a small city-sized van with a footprint that can accommodate passengers or be the perfect carry-all for small businesses. Now, it’s your turn to look!

2017 Toyota Camry

America’s best-selling passenger car for 14 years comes in four trim levels and 10 colors. It starts at $23,070, powered by a 178 hp. four-cylinder, a 268 hp. V6, or 200 hp. hybrid; the 6-speed auto transmission has steering wheel paddle shifters.

Fuel economy ranges from 24/33 mpg city/highway up to 42/38 for the hybrid. The SE and the even sportier XSE versions feature a unique front fascia design with a sport, piano-black mesh grille and a dark chrome coating on halogen or LED lights with LED low- and high beams with automatic leveling, front turn signal indicators and LED Daytime Running Lights. A special-tuned suspension brings agility.

There are 17-inch alloy wheels with a graphite finish and 18-inch machine-finish alloy wheels with gloss black accents. Inside are sport front seats with side bolsters, a leather-trimmed three-spoke steering wheel, premium soft-touch materials with seat cover textures that range from uplevel fabric, genuine leather trim or Ultrasuede trim to French stitching and satin chrome trims. A color 4.2-inch TFT screen displays vehicle functions along with multimedia audio, navigation, warning and communications.

The console tray offers a power source in the storage box; onboard are a 12-volt power port, USB port and available Qi-Wireless Charging. Connectivity and entertainment come via Entune Multimedia, with 6.1-inch or 7-inch touch-screen displays, voice commands and/or steering-wheel mounted controls. Navigation and JBL Green Edge systems are available. The five-seater is an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety TOP SAFETY PICK+, with the available Pre-Collision System.

2017 Chevrolet Malibu

In 2016, this five-passenger sedan was updated with fresh upscale styling, a smoother ride, new powertrains, more features and amenities, plus a collection of affordable packages.

For 2017, Chevrolet brings a hybrid to the lineup and matches the 2.0L turbo engine with a new 9-speed auto transmission, and made it available in three new colors, added a Sport Package and Android Auto and Apple Car Play, along with the Chevy Teen Driver feature. It starts at $22,555, in L, LS, LT, Hybrid and Premier models. A 1.5L turbocharged engine with a six-speed automatic transmission is standard on L, LS and LT, while the 2.0L turbo is standard on Premier. Features include standard LED daytime running lamps on all and LED taillamps on Premier, along with heated leather-trimmed and ventilated front seats.

Standard or available, depending on trim, are Chevrolet MyLink with either a 7-inch or 8-inch diagonal color capacitive touchscreen; navigation; OnStar 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot and wireless phone charging; dual rear-seat USB ports and 110-volt power outlets. Safety features include 10 air bags, rear-vision camera, StabiliTrak electronic stability control, all-speed traction control and hill hold. Available Driver Confidence Packages are: City-Speed Front Automatic Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, IntelliBeam automatic high-beam control, Front and Rear Park Assist, Side Blind Zone Alert with Lane Change Alert, Lane Keep Assist, Following Distance Indicator, Forward Collision Alert and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.

Available on Premier are Full-Speed Range Adaptive Cruise Control, Front Automatic Braking, Semi-Automatic Park Assist and electronic park brake.

2017 Ram ProMaster Commercial Van

This small van was named Commercial Green Car of the Year by Green Car Journal for two year running. For 2017, the front-drive ProMaster City is available in four versions: the two-seat Tradesman Cargo Van and Tradesman SLT Cargo Van; and the five-seat passenger Wagon and Wagon SLT.

Eight configurations deliver a best-in-class payload of 1,883 lbs., impressive cargo capacity, good performance and fuel economy. It’s powered by a Tigershark 2.4L four-cylinder engine producing 178 hp./ 178 lb.-ft. of torque that is mated to a nine-speed auto transmission.

Fuel economy is rated 21/29 mpg city/highway. The load compartment offers four-way access and the floor is fitted with six tie downs with a combined 1,000-lb. capacity. A 51.4-inch roof height and low step-in of 21.4 inches (with side step) allows easy access to the cargo area. Near vertical side panels make it easy for upfitters to add shelves and bins. The roof is prepped for roof rails or tool racks. Rear doors are 60/40 split and swing both 90 and 180 degrees and allow full-pallet cargo loading.

Side doors slide for easy street or curb access. A 122.4-inch wheelbase makes it easy-to-drive. Available are a ParkView backup camera and ParkSense with audible warning – useful when delivering in the city.

Passenger wagon versions have a three-passenger 60/40 split second row that can fold and tumble forward to expand cargo room. With the seats in place, the passenger version has four feet of cargo length to the rear doors.

2017 Nissan Murano

2017 Nissan Pathfinder
