Leadership Conference and 40th Anniversary Awards Gala

On September 11-13, CHCI convened leaders and influencers during its 2017 leadership conference and 40th Anniversary Awards Gala in the nation’s capital. This year’s theme “Transformative Change” explored ways to innovate, lead and inspire as attendees were encouraged to examine ways to shape the future. Celebrating its 40th anniversary during the Awards Ceremony, CHCI highlighted Hispanic culture and heroes with the Medallion of Excellence Honorees Cástulo de la Rocha and Lin Manuel Miranda and Chair Award Recipient Sandra Cisneros.

Hispanic Women of Distinction (HWOD).

Hundreds attended the 16th anniversary of the Hispanic Women of Distinction Charity Awards Luncheon on August 25 at the Signature Grand in Davie, Florida. Over 850 guests payed tribute to Latina professionals who are strengthening the U.S. social fabric and making inroads in the leadership pipeline for a growingly diverse America. The annual celebration raised more than $12,000 from a Silent Auction benefiting the Jessica June Children’s Cancer Fund and Pace Center for Girls. Presented by LATINA Style, in partnership with Bank of America and AARP, the highly-promoted celebration brings to the forefront the contributions of Hispanic women from South Florida.

Association of Latino Professionals For America (ALPFA).

ALPFA, the Association of Latino Professionals For America, a nonprofit serving Latino professionals and students, held its annual National Convention at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, from August 6-10. Themed “The New Latino Paradigm”, the event focused on how Latino students and professionals are driving the growth in the U.S. economy. With more than 100 professional and leadership development workshops, the conference also included a career fair and expo opening opportunities for jobs and internships for all attendees.

DFW Hispanic 100

On September 21, the DFW Hispanic 100, a network of Dallas-area Hispanic women leaders working to increase business and leadership opportunities for Latinas, honored Beatriz Salazar with its 10th Annual Latina Living Legend Award. The prestigious annual event, attended by community leaders, elected officials and high-profile corporate executives, recognizes the lifetime commitment of a Dallas/Fort Worth area Latina who has distinguished herself through her profession, active community and civic participation, volunteerism, and/or philanthropic endeavors, which directly benefit the community-at-large.
