Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce 38th Annual Awards Gala
On Friday, May 6th, the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce held its 38th Annual Awards Gala at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Fort Worth. From business owners to local community leaders, and elected officials, the event honored members who have gone above and beyond. The award winners of the evening were: Harry Barajas, Businessman of the Year; Nancy Galvan, Businesswoman of the Year; Carlos Guzman, Ambassador of the Year; Mitchell Espinosa, Corporate Advocate of the Year; Bill Medina, Government Advocate of the Year; Hillwood, Corporation of the Year; Mayor Mike Moncrief, Chairman’s Award.

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) CHCI Fellows Graduation
The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) held the CHCI Fellows Graduation on May 12 at Madison Hall - Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. Seven graduate fellows and 13 Public Policy Fellows experienced personal and professional growth as they worked in congressional offices, federal agencies, nonprofit groups, and government-related organizations. This fellowship program seeks to enhance particpants’ leadership abilities, strengthen professional skills, and increase the presence of Latinos in public policy areas.

White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics Announces New Members of the Presiden
On May 26, President Obama Announced Members of the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics. The Commissioners are tasked with advising President Obama and Education Secretary Arne Duncan to help improve academic excellence and opportunities for Hispanic students across the country. The Commissioners will work closely with the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics to meet President Obama s goals for the nation to have the best-educated workforce in the world by 2020, and to once again lead the world in the number of college graduates.
