Starting the New Year in Harmony.

New Years Resolutions

Every year, millions of people make “New Year’s Resolutions.” Research has shown that only 8 percent of these individuals actually keep their new years resolutions.This year, instead of burdening yourself with an obstacle, give yourself the gift of harmony.Why not live in harmony, with your thoughts, your goals and your actions, so happiness can come your way. Mahatma Gandhi once said: “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.”

This year, let’s start the year by embracing every day as if it was your last day on earth and embrace others along the way. Everyone you meet has something to teach you. Check your attitude about life. If you have lost a loved one or have been close to death yourself, you know how fragile life is. Author Maya Angelou said: “If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.”

They say it takes 21 days to change a habit. Rather than having a new years resolution, let’s focus on having a new attitude, a new habit, a new life long goal and live the life that you want.

Eat Healthy to be Healthy

thinking_ladyEvery day millions of people decide to start diets. The word diet is scary and intimidating. What if we changed our approach and our attitude? Think of your body as a machine. It needs the right kind of fuel to keep running smoothly. If you filled your car up with soda, sugar, and chips, it would fall apart.Your car needs oil and gas to run. The older your car gets, it requires a specific kind of oil.Why wouldn’t we do the same for our bodies? The goal of eating right should not simply be to lose weight. It should be to be healthy and be your best self, both inside and out! This way, if one day you decide to get the cheeseburger and the fries, it’s not the end of world.Your whole diet is not ruined.You know that tomorrow you will fuel yourself better.

Let Go and Follow your Dreams

Think about what you want for the upcoming year. Be sure to make these thoughts and goals attainable and clear. What have you been working towards? What makes you feel good? What makes you happy? What have you not done in years, that brought you joy in the past? Things like, playing an instrument, doing a sport, traveling, etc. Go do it!

Think about the past year. We all have our troubles and obstacles. I always hear people say: “Thank goodness this year is coming to a close.” What is it that happened this year that was so difficult? Do not dwell on it. Learn from the experience and move on. LET IT GO! Really let it go.

Set Goals

  • What would you do if you were not afraid?
  • Face your fears – what paralyzes us from moving forward is our fears. If you face your fears you will learn that many of the obstacles we see or feel are put there by ourselves.
  • Drop off any excess baggage.
  • Sometimes we carry resentments, regrets, sadness of things that happened in the past. Start the year by letting go of the past by forgiving yourself and others and start living in the present-In Harmony.
  • Forgiveness is the best gift you can give yourself.
  • Forgiveness is a reflection of loving yourself enough to move on.When you choose to forgive those who have hurt you, you take away their power.

So for the beginning of the year, believe in yourself, drop-off the excess baggage, let go of the past, love what you do and surround yourself with positive people and incorporate in your life activities that bring you satisfaction and happiness as we start the new year in harmony.You have the power to start the year happier, healthier and in harmony!
