“Be yourself. Everyone else is taken.” Oscar Wilde
Developing a vision and/or mission statement is your compass for living your life on purpose for a purpose. I wrote my first mission statement when I was 40 at a Ken Blanchard retreat. It was a one pager describing the life I wanted to live.
Today, 20 plus years later, my vision is four words: Be an Earth Angel. At the end of every day, I ask myself, “Was I an Earth Angel? What could I have done differently? Was I a blessing, an encourager? Is there someone I need to ask for forgiveness?”
Life really does become easier, lighter and brighter when I am 100% accountable for my life. Yours will be too! By faith and better choices, you can live paradise on earth. Sure there will be some speedbumps along the way, however you have a compass to guide you over and in some cases, go down a different street.
Honoring yourself and being you set the foundation for living your unique, one-of-a-kind amazing adventure. You honor yourself by living a values-centered life.
“Try not to become a person of success but rather a person of value.” Albert Einstein
Imagine you were living the life of your dreams in all areas – what would it feel like? Look like? Sound like? The areas could include: attitudes, relationships/emotional, physical, professional, financial, spiritual, and contribution/service. You get to choose!
List the values and principles that currently drive your behaviors. Are they supporting the life you want and deserve? If not, life is so wonderful you can choose again. I know I did repeatedly!
If you were to live by one value only, what would it be? For the longest time my one value was credibility since I lost it when working for Exxon in the 1970s. Sure I make it up the corporate ladder of success; however I lost my soul and ended up having a nervous breakdown. The good news I ended up at Harvard University and began my journey to my true self. My one value now is LOVE.
As with me at Exxon, in what situations currently do you perhaps signal a lack of integrity, which could create an implosion of self? When do you give your power away is another way of getting the same information. You must live consciously to create the life you want and deserve.
Imagine you were limitless, what experiences would you have? How would you contribute to life and the world? What are your unique talents and gifts that fire your passion? When you live from your passion it will be you going through the ups and downs of the economy and life! It has for me!
How do you want to be remembered? Every day you are leaving a legacy.
What limiting beliefs and labels would you like to erase? What beliefs and attitudes would you want to add? These are super important to identify, erase or add to live your best life now. It helps you meet your own needs.
As crucial to living your best life now, how are you currently making your life hard? Who or what do you need to say goodbye to fly? I can assure you that in most cases I was making my life harder than it needed to be because I thought, “Life is hard, then you die.” – my family’s motto. As a point of reference, my mom committed suicide and my dad was a raging alcoholic.
Ask yourself, are the obstacles real or in my mind to living my mission and vision – my best life now?
